Why choose a holiday home in Edinburgh and Lothians?

Edinburgh. It's one of the ten greatest cities in the world. Panoramic views from both the Scott and Nelson monuments are worth your time. Try one during the day and the other after nightfall. The Castle and ancient Old Town lie on one side of the railway. New Town's Georgian aura lies on the other side.

Call it Athens of the North or Auld Reekie (Old Smokey) and prepare to fall in love. A 7th century founded city where streets are built on top of streets over the centuries including the Royal Mile. Visitors can even tour the chambers beneath the lanes which are said to be one of the most haunted places in Europe.

At one end stands the Palace of Holyrood House, Her majesty The Queens official home in Scotland. The former home of Mary, Queen of Scots hosts interesting exhibits from the royal trove. Edinburgh Castle towers over the city at the other end, melded to the remains of an ancient volcano.

Scotland's capitol city hosts a vast number of festivals attended by a worldwide audience. Both historic and modern there is no end to the activities and adventures that await travelers no matter what their interests.

East Lothian is perfect for gift shopping, soak up a museum, or take a time out in an art gallery. Absorb history in the churches, rural homes, and castles that are open to the public.

Links are constructed near the sea with few trees, native seaside grass in the rough, deep bunkers, and expect fast courses since they are rarely watered.

Fans of "The Da Vinci Code" will not want to miss the medieval stone built Rosslyn Chapel. It is balanced on the rocky outcrop of Pentland Hills in Midlothian. This is the arena of black diamonds, tropical butterflies, and puzzling carved stones.

The "Garden of Scotland" was the nicknamed ascribed in the 17th century to West Lothian. This hotspot is a combination of parks, activities, history, and shopping.

Trekkies will make their pilgrimage to the Annet House Museum in Linlithgow. This is the tribute to beloved actor James Doohan who famously portrayed Scotty on the Starship Enterprise.

A holiday home here could easily make you forget that you've ever lived anywhere else. Or want to.
